Nature Under Care

Amur Tiger: Sasha’s Journey of Strength and Recovery

Sasha, our Amur tiger, is the pride of the zoo and a true symbol of resilience. Born as part of an international conservation program, Sasha’s early life wasn’t easy. Rescued from illegal captivity, where he lived in poor conditions, he was malnourished and timid. After extensive care, he was introduced to our state-of-the-art enclosure designed to mimic the dense forests and snowy terrain of his natural habitat in the Russian Far East.

Visitors are captivated by Sasha’s majestic presence, his thick, golden coat with distinctive black stripes gleaming in the sunlight. He particularly loves snowy days, rolling around and playfully pouncing on snowdrifts like a cub. Keepers share stories of his favorite enrichment activities, which include large hanging meat-filled puzzles and his fascination with water streams. Sasha’s story is not only a testament to his strength but also a reminder of the critical work being done to save the Amur tiger from extinction.
