Buffalo Weaver: Tiny Bird, Big Builder

The buffalo weaver in our aviary, named Biko, is a master architect. These birds are known for their intricate nests, and Biko doesn’t disappoint. His large, thorny structure dominates one corner of the aviary, and he spends hours meticulously weaving twigs, grasses, and even bits of discarded materials into his masterpiece.

Biko’s nest-building skills are not just for show—they’re an important part of his courtship display. Visitors enjoy watching him add finishing touches while chirping melodiously to attract a mate. What’s particularly interesting about buffalo weavers like Biko is their communal lifestyle; several birds often contribute to the construction and maintenance of the nest. Biko’s energy and determination inspire awe among guests, who leave with a newfound appreciation for this small yet industrious bird.
