Grizzly Bear: The Gentle Giant, Kodiak

Kodiak, our grizzly bear, is both powerful and gentle. Rescued from an area where his habitat was being destroyed by deforestation, Kodiak has adapted well to his spacious enclosure, which mimics the lush forests and rivers of North America.

Visitors often marvel at his size—standing over 7 feet tall on his hind legs, Kodiak is an imposing figure. But his keepers know him as a gentle soul who loves nothing more than splashing in the water or fishing for trout during feeding sessions. One of his favorite activities is digging; he creates massive holes, uncovering hidden treats like honeycombs or fruit. Guests especially love the "grizzly enrichment days," where Kodiak is given logs filled with peanut butter or frozen fish to crack open. His combination of raw strength and playful curiosity makes him one of the zoo’s most beloved residents.
