Asiatic Lion: Raja, the King of the Zoo

Raja, our Asiatic lion, lives up to his royal name. He is one of the few representatives of his critically endangered species, native to the Gir Forest in India. Raja’s story began in a rescue center, where he was saved from a poaching incident. Now, he enjoys a life of comfort in a sprawling enclosure designed to resemble the dry forests of his homeland.

Visitors are drawn to Raja’s majestic mane and his commanding presence. He often lounges on elevated platforms, surveying his domain with a regal air. Despite his calm demeanor, Raja becomes lively during feeding times, roaring powerfully to assert his dominance. Keepers also engage him with enrichment activities, such as hanging meat-filled bags or scent trails to stimulate his natural hunting instincts. His roar, often heard in the early morning, is a sound that captivates everyone, reminding us of the wild beauty and strength of this endangered king.
